Imagine being able to explore the very heart of one of the world's greatest cities, but having it pretty much all to yourself. Well, in London you can...but only on Sundays!
Our brand new tour for 2011 explores the oldest and most historic part of London; the tiny district known as ‘the City’. This is ancient London, where the Romans built the first settlement almost two millennia ago. It’s the seed from where our great metropolis started sprouting outwards.
But it’s also a place of bizarre contrasts and strange contradictions. Built around the higgledy-piggledy maze of medieval streets and ancient alleyways is brash, modern London, where you'll find medieval churches nestled up beside shiny skyscrapers. It’s where the very old and the very new co-exist in the same space.
During the week the City is a chaotic, heaving mass of people working in Europe’s buzzing financial capital. But on Sundays the area takes on a totally different vibe and becomes a virtual ghost town, eerily devoid of people. The ancient streets are empty...and absolutely perfect for exploring by bike.
We think the Deserted City tour is pretty special. It focuses on a fascinating part of our capital which becomes magical for just one day a week. Sundays. When the shops are closed and the stock brokers and bankers are gone. When you get to visit the geographical and historic centre of the European Union’s largest city... and there’s virtually nobody else there.
