Moving home can be more expensive than you think. You have perhaps pushed your budget to the max in order to get the winning and accepted bid on the property you’re moving to. Then you need to take into account estate agent fees, stamp duty, solicitors fees and much more! How can you move home with a love budget? Do you need more money to move than you think? What can you scrimp and save on and what areas should you get some help with? Let’s take a look!

Make A Budget

One of the first things to do is to actually make a budget. You might think you’re on a low budget but what actually is your budget? If you figure out all the different areas you’ll need to pay for when you’re moving home, you’ll be able to figure out a budget. You’ll then be able to, in turn, figure out ways to cut the cost so it fits in with the money you actually have to move with. You shouldn’t have to pay more than you have budgeted for. Sticking within a budget is difficult, but doable.

Get Rid Of Some Stuff

The more you have to move, the more it’s going to cost and the longer it’s going to take. It means more boxes, more packing materials, more money. Before you move, declutter your stuff. Before you put it in a moving box, ask yourself whether you still want it. Does it serve a purpose in your life? Do you want to move it from one shelf to another to simply gather more dust? List anything you don’t want on Facebook Marketplace and you’ll not only clear it out so you don’t have to move it, you’ll also make some extra cash.

Get Help On Moving Day

One of the areas I suggest getting help with, is your removals. You don’t have to pay a lot of money for a little bit of help, but getting help is invaluable on moving day. The day flies by so fast and suddenly you’ve moved from one place to another. Getting some help with the lifting and carrying is fantastic. Places such as The Man Van – Cheap Man and van wont eat into your budget too much but will help so much on your busy moving day. 

Change Your Address Yourself

One of the things we so often miss out on when moving home is important mail. Rather than paying for mail redirection which can cost almost £70 for a year, simply change your address with all the companies you get mail from. This could be bank accounts, magazine subscriptions and charities you donate to. If you change the address yourself, you’ll get the post you need without having to pay extra for it.

Use This As An Opportunity

Moving home is the next chapter in your life but you can also use it as an opportunity to save some money. End the subscriptions to the streaming services you no longer use. If you’re moving further away from the gym, cancel your membership. You can save some money but switching companies and closing subscriptions. Don’t forget to check the utility suppliers of the new house. If it hasn’t been changed in a while it’s likely not as cheap as it could be.
