Helping Your Child Learn A New Language

In a world that is forever changing, with access to different cultures and countries becoming that much easier, being able to speak two or three languages will add value to person’s life. It is said that the younger a child is, the easier and quicker they learn things. When it comes to languages, accents, grammar and complicated vocabulary can be absorbed easier when taught at a young age. If you’re looking to help your child learn a new language, here is some advice from a private boys school in Hampstead

If the language being learnt is already spoken at home, familiarise them with it by speaking to them regularly in it. This will make it easier for your child to become more comfortable when picking up accents and grammar. Doing this will help them build a good foundation for when it comes to their exams in school.

Study with your child. Some parents can’t find the time to sit with their child to do homework so studying for a language could be the last thing on their list. However, sitting down for 20 minutes can give your child a boost to learn better. It will help connect both parent and child, and teach strong skills that will make them feel like they can overcome anything.

Find tv shows or films that are written in the language your child is learning. This is a great way to listen and understand the dialect in an entertaining way. They will pick up on words they already know and will find that the language flows better. To make it feel less educational, pop the subtitles on and gather the family to watch it together.

If you find it is an opportunity worth pursuing, try and send your child abroad to the country the language originates in and allow them to submerge themselves in the culture and language. Surrounding yourself entirely by what you need to learn is a great way to rapidly pick things up.
