Go Self Employed & Live Better
Have you recently lost your job? Or has the global pandemic made you look at your career choices differently? If you’re sick of working for someone else, why not work for yourself? I’ve been self employed for over eight years now and I’m going to tell you to go for it. Go self employed!

More Freedom
When you go self employed are you granted some freedom. Freedom from the shackles of having to go into the same job everyday and working for someone else. Talking to bosses and attending mundane meetings. You can go for a run before work and dress how you want. Have some music on in the office, or the television set in the background. Work from the back of a campervan on holiday if you wanted to. Different jobs require different things and typically self employed people do work long hours. However, the freedom from the 9-5 is wonderful, believe me! It can actually be quite spiritual.
No Commuting
How many hours do you waste every year commuting to the office? I used to spend almost three hours of my day travelling to and from work. This works out as an eighth of my day, travelling. That’s 15 hours a week. That would be 780 hours over 52 weeks of the year, which boils down to 32.5 days! That’s over a month! Now I work from home I have zero commute. I can spend that extra 3 hours a day doing something I want to. It doesn’t work for all people who go self employed but when you go self employed you often gain time. Even if you don’t find yourself with extra time on your hands, at least the time you’re using is on something you really want to do. Better your business and yourself.
Work When You Want
When you go self employed you can work when you want to. If you love taking the kids to school, you can do that. If you’re able to start work at 10am, maybe you can get a morning swim in before starting to reply to those emails. If you work for clients you can take charge of your own calendar and maybe work shorter days during the week and offer a weekend too. If you want to go to a sporting event or have somewhere to be, you don’t need to run it by anybody.

Five ways to be more productive
In conclusion, working for myself was the best thing I ever did. I know that every minute I put into work it’s for me, it’s providing for my family and growing a business for us. To go self employed might not be for everybody because it is hard at times and you don’t get a pension plan or sick pay. However, when it comes down to it, I wouldn’t change things. I can go out and take photographs for my hobby when the light is the best and catch up on work on an evening should I need to. To go self employed is a leap of faith, but if you don’t jump, you’ll never fly!
