How to Raise a Respectful Child

Respect is common courtesy and something that should be taught to children from a young age. While it might seem like common sense, children need to be taught right from wrong and how to treat those around them. Listen to Them

Listening to someone is a simple way of showing respect. Always acknowledge what your child has to say instead of being dismissive and talking over them as it can teach them bad manners.

Speak Kindly to Service Staff

Respect should be shown to all, not just friends and family. To raise a respectful child, teach them to be respectful to all and be sure to speak to service staff kindly and respectfully in their presence. 

Filter Unkind Thoughts

This can be difficult for children but reminding them that certain things are mean can stop them from hurting others and help them be respectful.

Understanding and respecting that can help children to be respectful towards others with differing views to them. Reading is a good way that you can introduce your child to new perspectives and develop respect in this way.

How to Walk Away

Conflict can bring out the worst in people and doesn’t need to be participated in. Teaching your child to be the bigger person and walk away from pointless arguments and confrontation can help them to remain respectful.
