The Best Frugal Living Tips
Saving money and making our budgets go further is at the top of many of our lists right now. How can we stretch what we have? What can we do to save cash and make more of our weekly budget? With bills and the price of living on the increase, every little saving helps. Let’s have a look at some of the best frugal living tips.
List & Plan
In order to stick to our frugal living tips you need to list and plan. Preparation is one of the biggest parts of being able to be frugal. Knowing what you need to buy by using a shopping list is important. Organising when and where you’ll shop is key. If you can figure out the best times to shop at supermarkets to take advantage of yellow sticker reductions that is fantastic. What about staying locally at markets and farm shops? A little bit of planning will help you in the long run.
Cook From Scratch
How often do you buy food already prepared? How much money do you spend every month on a takeaway? This is where your money is being spent. You’re paying for someone else to do the preparation for you. Being able to cook from scratch will not only help you learn and advance valuable skills, you’ll also enjoy it! Putting your own spin on recipes or following one from your favourite celebrity chef is great. It’s an activity within itself and will get you away from the pizza boxes and ready meals.

Bulk & Batch
Typically, if you buy your ingredients in bulk it will lower the cost. For example, if you know your family eats their way through 2kg of pasta every month, don’t just buy 500g bags. You’ll save cash by buying it in larger quantities. If you’re time short a lot of the time but enjoy cooking, why not batch cook your meals? Rather than making one lasagne, make two or three and freeze them. The same with other meals like cottage pie and chilli. Then all you need to do is get it out the freezer on the morning before you plan on eating it in the evening. Then pop it in the oven and you’ve got a delicious homemade meal.
Use Your Leftovers
How often do you scrape the remains of a meal into the bin? You need to start learning to use your leftovers. Food in the bin is also money in the bin. Lots of people have a leftover night were things that haven’t been eaten during the week get plated up for dinner. This is one of the best frugal living tips as you actually use what you have.
Utilise Your Outdoor Space
Could you grow your own food? Or have some chickens to provide you with eggs? Utilising your outdoor space to become more self sufficient is a great way to live frugally. Rather than just having a swing and a football goal in your garden, create a vegetable patch and grow your own produce.
Commute With Your Coffee
How much do you spend every week on takeaway coffee too? Get yourself a flask and make your own drink for the commute. You’ll save time queuing for your cappuccino and be able to enjoy your drink from the moment you step outside your front door. You’ll also save yourself some money!

Inspire The Next Generation
Children learn by seeing what we do. If you can get them inspired with cooking then your frugal living ways will pass down from generation to generation. As things get more expensive we must all learn to make our money go further. Be clever, buy on offer, cook for yourself and be happy!
